Get ready for the Saint Paul Winter Carnival’s Beard Growing Competition! 

Join us on Thursday, January 4th at 6pm at Billy’s on Grand for the Beard Growing Competition Kick-off Event!

Participants will compete in three categories: Clean-Shaven, Lumberjack, and Freestyle. Participants will be in contention for prizes. This is a fundraiser for the Saint Paul Festival & Heritage Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit, the proud producers of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, to help pay expenses of the 2024 festival.

On January 4th, there will even be a $10 red cup keg bust until it’s empty- so come one, come all! The proceeds will be donated back to the Foundation.

THE CATEGORIES:

CLEAN SHAVEN CATEGORY
Participants must come to the Clean Shave Event on Thursday, January 4th at Billy’s on Grand at 857 Grand Ave Saint Paul MN 55105 to be “clean-shaven” by an expert from our partner, Gentlemen’s Cuts, 913 Payne Ave, St Paul, MN 55130. There will be a social gathering at 6 pm and shaving will begin promptly at 6:30 pm until completed. Participants must then submit their photo wearing a Saint Paul Winter Carnival button between January 25th and January 26th, or check in to the Carnival headquarters between January 25th and January 26th for final photos.

Participants are encouraged to post a weekly progress photo with our hashtag #CarnivalBeard or by email.
Please indicate which category you are participating in your post or email.
All contestants must grow their own beard naturally without help from chemicals or drugs.
Extensions and/or artificial coloration are not allowed.

Prizes for the Clean Shave Category:
1st Prize – 4 tickets to one MN Timberwolves Game in the month of February
2nd Prize – Manhattan & Martini Gift Basket
3rd Prize – Summit Brewing Gift Basket

Good Neighbor Barber Shop will be on-site to shave you for this category.

Lumberjack BEARD CATEGORY
Unlike the Clean Shave, there are no time restrictions in this category, so beard growing can begin at any time. Participants are invited to the Clean Shave Event to cheer them on and bask in your manly bearded glow.
Participants are encouraged to post a weekly progress photo with the hashtag #CarnivalBeard.
All contestants must grow their own beard naturally, to the best of their ability, without help from chemicals or drugs.
Extensions and/or artificial coloration are not allowed.

Prizes for the Lumberjack Category:

1st Prize – 1 Year Subscription to the Dollar Shave Club + $100 in Shave Products. ($400 retail
value) Donated by Billy’s on Grand
2nd Prize – Gift Basket full of Beard Goodies ($250 retail value) Donated by Billy’s on Grand
3rd Prize – Gift Basket full of Beard Goodies ($75 retail value) Donated by Billy’s on Grand

Freestyle CATEGORY
Contestants are encouraged to be creative with their own beard or make one if you can’t grow one!
Coloration and hair products are allowed. Participants post final photo on Instagram between Feb 1st and Feb 5th with
the hashtag #CarnivalBeard or submit their photo by email.

Prizes for the Freestyle Category:
1st Prize – Mall of America Gift Basket, includes 4 tickets each of the following: SeaLife, Nick U, Crayola, Mouse Mountain
2nd Prize – $50 Billy’s on Grand Gift Card
3rd Prize – $25 Billy’s on Grand Gift Card
